Etch is used also to sketch a drawing of Al, a man who the toys call “the chicken man.” In Toy Story 2, our beloved characters Buzz, Rex and the rest gather round Etch in order to sketch a plan of how to rescue Woody from Al’s Toy Barn. It was then used for all of Pierce Brosnan’s movies before Daniel Craig’s Bond took the partnership to a new level, when he used the DBS in high-speed chases, as well as re-introducing the old, original DB5 to the audience. The partnership did go through a bit of a break, as the franchise began to use a variety of different automotive makes and models, including BMW, but the Aston Martin resurgence really began in the 80s, when it was used in 1987’s The Living Daylights. Sean Connery’s Bond asks his Quartermaster, “Where’s my Bentley” to which Q replies, “Oh, that’s had it’s day I’m afraid” before unveiling a new, sleek Aston Martin DB5. It was first introduced as a Bond car in the 1964 film Goldfinger. Despite all the brands that are strategically placed within Bond films, such as Omega, Heineken and many more, Aston Martin is probably the one most synonymous with the franchise. One of the longest-standing partnerships in film history is the one between James Bond and Aston Martin. Having too much product placement makes it harder for one particular brand to stick in the audience’s head. These tongue-in-cheek scenes certainly add to the audience’s enjoyment of the film, but whether or not it worked for the brands involved is another question. If you’ve watched the film, you can just picture Garth dressed head to toe in Reebok gear, expressing how sad it is that “people only do things because they’re gonna get paid.” In another scene, Wayne is seen sat there with a Pizza Hut box saying “contract or no, I will not bow to any sponsor.
